Gender Swap Photo: You as a Man or a Woman

Printed portraits of a smiling woman and a smiling man with the same features side by side

To see what you'd look like as the opposite gender, swap your face into a portrait of a man or a woman. In Face Swap AI, open Templates, pick a portrait and add your selfie. Your eyes, nose and mouth go into the photo while the hair, styling and outfit come from the portrait, so the result looks like a real photo of you as a man or a woman.

Gender swap filters on social apps reshape your selfie with an effect. Swapping into a real portrait gives a more photographic result, and choosing the portrait well is most of the trick.

How to gender swap a photo in 4 steps

  1. Open Templates and pick a portrait of a man or a woman.
  2. Add a selfie under Your face: facing the camera, neutral or smiling, no sunglasses.
  3. Tap Swap faces.
  4. Try two or three portraits. Hair and styling change the result more than you'd expect, so compare a few before you share one.

What would I look like as a man?

Pick a clean-shaven portrait if you don't have a beard yourself. Stubble around the jaw and lip belongs to the template photo, and it may not blend with your skin. Short hair with a suit or a plain sweater reads most clearly as a male version of you.

What would I look like as a woman?

Portraits with soft, even light and visible eyebrows work best. Makeup comes from the template too, so a natural-makeup portrait gives a subtler result than an evening look. Long or shoulder-length hair changes the impression most.

Use your own photo instead of a template

Any photo works as the target if the face is clear and points the same way as your selfie. Upload it in the Face swap tab next to your selfie.

One fun version: a photo of a sibling or parent of the other gender. Their hair and face shape carry family resemblance, so the result can look uncannily familiar. Ask them first.

Cost, and sharing it kindly

Previewing is free, and swaps start at $2.99 for 15 with no watermark. Gender swaps are fun among friends and can mean something real to people exploring how they want to look. Keep them to your own face or people who agreed, and don't use them to mock anyone.

Questions

Does a gender swap photo change my face shape?

Partly. Your features go into the portrait, but the jaw outline, hairline and neck come from the template photo, and those are a big part of what makes the result read as male or female.

Can I gender swap a friend's photo?

Yes, if they agree. Add their photo as Your face and pick a portrait. Ask before you post it, because a gender swap can feel more personal than other face swaps.
